Magnitude of Problem

Statistics from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and Supreme Court of Japan indicate an estimated 4,000 American children have lost regular access to their parent after divorce in Japan since 1992. In total, an estimated 2 million children of all nationalities have lost regular access to their parent after divorce in Japan since that time.

The US State Department reports at least 374 American children have been abducted from the US to Japan since 1994. The State Department website still needs to be updated.
